The position is with the National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) Pacific Island Regional Office (PIRO) Protected Resources Division (PRD)... yes it's a mouthful! It is still a contract position through Ocean Associates, Incorporated.

Position Title: Natural Resource Specialist II / Scientific Technical Writer II

 
Description: PIRO is seeking to secure the services of a full-time (average 40 hours per week) experienced Scientific Technical Writer with coral background to provide professional support services to PIRO related to Endangered Species Act (ESA) coral activites. The person will work under the guidance of PIRO’s Regulatory Branch Chief at PIRO in Honolulu, HI.

The duties shall inclue:
*Researching, drafting, and editing complex technical documents such as 12-month Findings, Proposed and Final Listing Rules, Proposed and Final Critical Habitat Rules, 4(d) Rules, Conference Biological Opinions, and related documents.

*Closely coordinating ESA coral work with the Pacific Islands Fisheries Science Center, Southeast Fisheries Science Center, Southeast Regional Office, Office of Protected Resources, NOAA General Counsel, and others via conference calls, web video presentations, face to face meetings, workshops, and a Wiki site.

*Representing ESA coral issues for PRD (Protected Resources Division) at public meetings, public hearings, scientific conferences, and to the media.

*Compiling and maintaining a reference library of coral-related information and pertinent references for above technical documents, including working in Endnote or related reference management software

*Compiling and organizing Decision Files and Administrative Records for ESA coral work

*Conducting literature or information searches necessary for ESA coral work.

*Assisting with tasks associated with PRD ESA listings, rulemakings, and related work as needed.

 

Location: Honolulu, Hawaii.

Contract duration: 1 year (with chance of renewal and/or permanent federal position)
